Experimental study on a heat driven refrigeration system based on combined organic Rankine and vapour compression cycles

Waste heat recovery has been considered as an attractive technique to improve the overall energy utilization efficiency of internal combustion (IC) engines. In this paper, distinct from most past research work, a thermally driven refrigeration system based on combined organic Rankine and vapour compression cycles is proposed recover IC engines’ waste contained in cooling water. Based concept, lab-scale prototype designed constructed using off-the-shelf components prove feasibility producing for ships refrigerated lorries. prototype, power generated by Organic cycle (ORC) used drive compressor Vapour Compression Cycle (VCC) through belt transmission mechanism. Pentafluoropropane (R245fa) Tetrafluoroethane (R134a) are working fluids ORC VCC systems, respectively. An electrical water heater simulate jacket, while enclosure load. With hot at temperature around 95 °C, produces 1.8 kW effect −4 leading heat-to-cooling 0.18, which defined ratio capacity refrigerator input plant. The performance could be significantly improved if optimal utilized.
